Mentorship

Having benefitted from experiences in camps and research labs as a high-school and as an undergraduate student, I have spent much of my career attempting to give back what I've gotten. Mentoring students and running camps and classes for grade school children are key aspects of my activities. Among the students I have worked with include Ashvin Goel, whom I mentored in his last year as a Ph.D. student. Ashvin worked on the Forensix project and his success led him to base his entire research program at the University of Toronto on the computer replay techniques of Forensix.  I have also graduated two Ph.D. students: Chris Chambers and Ed Kaiser.  Both students established themselves as leaders in the networked games community. Chris won the Best Student Paper award at the Internet Measurement Conference for his work in game measurement in 2005 while Ed's work on detecting cheating in on-line games was accepted at ACM CCS 2009: a tier-1 security conference. Below is a summary of graduate students I have mentored.

My mentorship activities are not limited to graduate students, however. I am also committed to developing the next generation of researchers by creating a student pipeline starting as early as high school. In order to foster participation in research from high-school and undergraduate students, I have established a relationship with multiple co-op and internship programs to provide advanced students with an opportunity to do research. Below is a list of undergraduate students that I have mentored throughout my career:
